Eight design examples are provided in Appendices C through J, published in NCHRP Web-Only Document 398: Design of Piles for Downdrag: Design Examples and Support Materials. The design examples include the use of hand calculations and different software programs. The purpose of the design examples is to demonstrate how to determine the location of the neutral plane, the amount of drag load that is estimated to develop under the loading scenario, and the amount of downdrag. Each of the design example topics is listed in Table 3.1 and contained in the corresponding appendix.
