Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will convene a planning committee to develop a public workshop to explore opportunities for integrating environmental and biomedical data by leveraging new and cutting-edge developments in multimodal artificial intelligence to understand complex health challenges. This workshop will build upon previous work of the Standing Committee on Emerging Science for Environmental Health Decisions including a 2019 workshop, Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Advance Environmental Health Research and Decisions. Potential discussion topics may include:
- Recent developments in AI and other data-driven approaches to understand the genetics-epigenetics-environmental mechanisms of health and disease
- Emerging tools and technologies to capture large-scale environmental determinants of health
- Advances in multimodal AI and other methodologies to integrate biomedical and environmental health data and promising applications in human health and disease
- Data infrastructure needs to promote multimodal data harmonization and interoperability
- Ethical, social, and policy implications of large-scale environmental health data collection and integration
A Proceedings-in-Brief will be prepared by rapporteurs in accordance with institutional guidelines.
