A number of efforts are currently underway to develop evidence-based strategies for increasing inter- and intra-generational mobility and improving economic and social well-being in the United States. The Committee on Population (CPOP) and the Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) will convene a two-day workshop that will highlight current research and policy efforts and identify key knowledge gaps and policy-relevant research and data needs on, among other things: the factors that influence economic and social mobility, the mechanisms through which these factors operate, and how these relationships and mechanisms vary across and within different population subgroups (especially race and ethnicity).

Description
A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will plan and execute a two-day public workshop that will bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the evidence base on improving social and economic mobility in the United States. The discussion at the workshop will highlight current research and policy efforts and identify key knowledge gaps and policy-relevant research and data needs on, among other things: the factors that influence economic and social mobility, the mechanisms through which these factors operate, and how these relationships and mechanisms vary across and within different population subgroups (especially race and ethnicity).
After the workshop, proceedings of a workshop of the presentations and discussions at the workshop will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
