Infrastructure Investment Prioritization Initiative
The Infrastructure Investment Prioritization Initiative (IIPI) partners with federal, state, and local governments to develop infrastructure policies that create more equitable, resilient, and economically dynamic communities. As an interdisciplinary initiative of the National Academies, the IIPI convenes top experts from the public and private sectors to ensure that America’s infrastructure investments are informed by sound science and engineering. Through activities ranging from interactive workshops to consensus reports and forums, the IIPI works at the intersection of complex transportation, water, energy, and communication issues to develop pragmatic, actionable, and non-partisan options for policymakers and practitioners across the nation.

Description
It’s no longer enough for a department of transportation to simply reduce congestion or a water utility to only decrease turbidity. Policymakers and the public increasingly expect that every infrastructure project tackle overlapping goals, from racial inequality and resilience to economic development and beyond. The IIPI works to address the complex issues that arise at the intersection of transportation, water, energy, and communication infrastructure to help policymakers, practitioners, and the communities that they serve navigate this constantly evolving landscape.
As a new initiative, the IIPI draws on the expertise of the organization’s thousands of volunteers to help federal, state, and local governments, as well as the private sector, make infrastructure policy decisions driven by sound science and engineering. Through everything from in depth consensus reports and forums, to more topical workshops, the IIPI sits at the nexus of America’s most critical infrastructure conversations.
