The Current Understanding of Pre-Pregnancy Weight, Gestational Weight Gain, and the Impacts on Maternal and Child Health: A Workshop

Completed

This virtual workshop examined issues related to obesity before, during, and after pregnancy. The webinar featured individual invited speakers and presentations that build on previous topics covered by the Academies since the 2009 report on weight gain in pregnancy, including prepregnancy weight status, gestational weight gain, and effects of gestational weight gain on maternal and child health.

Description

An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a one-hour virtual public workshop (webinar) that will examine issues related to obesity before, during, and after pregnancy. The webinar will feature invited speakers and presentations that build on previous topics covered by the Academies since the 2009 report on weight gain in pregnancy, including pre-pregnancy weight status, gestational weight gain, and effects of gestational weight gain on maternal and child health. In addition, the webinar may include discussions of populations with special risk factors present before, during, and after pregnancy.

The committee will define the specific topics to be addressed, develop the agenda, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the webinar, staff will post slides and the recording of the webinar to the activity website in accordance with institutional guidelines. No other publications will be prepared.
