TRB Webinar: Highly Modified Asphalt Development and Applications

May 2, 2024

12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (EDT)

Past

Highly modified asphalt (HiMA) binders are engineered to provide lasting performance in asphalt mixtures subjected to demanding traffic loading and environmental conditions. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Eastern that described the development of HiMA, including the applications at the National Center for Asphalt Technology. Presenters discussed Florida Department of Transportation’s (DOT) applications over the past decade and a more recent introduction and use by Utah DOT.

This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s Standing Technical Committee on Binders for Flexible Pavement.

The slides are linked in the meeting materials. View the recorded webinar below.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Development and initial applications of HiMA binders – Bob Kluttz, Kraton Corporation

  2. How the use of HiMA has evolved in Florida over the last decade – Jim Musselman, Florida DOT

  3. The introduction and application of HiMA binders in Utah – Howard Anderson, Utah DOT
