TRB Webinar: Safe System Approach to Substance Abuse

September 12, 2023

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (EDT)

Past

Data shows that fatal crashes involving impaired drivers often include higher blood alcohol concentrations, prior driving convictions, and more than one impairing substance. This is a complex problem that cannot be solved solely by punishment and/or incarceration. These behaviors often point to an underlying symptom of substance use disorders, which require individualized treatment to address specific needs. TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM Eastern that shared a Safe System approach to understand the multifaceted nature of substance abuse and mental health disorders to inform effective and lasting change that saves lives.

This is the first of three webinars in a series on how the impaired driving paradigm is changing.

This webinar was sponsored by TRB’s Standing Technical Committee on Impairment in Transportation.
