What are the latest innovations in seismic design on foundations? TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Eastern that shared the latest findings on the seismic design and performance of foundations. Presenters discussed how to design around the impacts of liquefaction, lateral spread, and downdrag.
This webinar was sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Foundations of Bridges and Other Structures.
The slides are linked in the meeting materials. View the recorded webinar below.
Webinar agenda and presenters
Simplified performance-based analysis of liquefaction and its effects – Kevin Franke, Brigham Young University
Liquefaction induced pile downdrag for single and group piles – Kyle Rollins, Brigham Young University
Design of pile foundations subjected to superstructure inertial loads and lateral ground deformations – Arash Khosravifar, Portland State University
Question and answer session moderated by Sharid Amiri, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
The first 60 minutes of the webinar were for presentations and the final 30 minutes were reserved for audience questions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants can:
Assess performance-based liquefaction
Share the latest innovation and findings on geoseismic foundation design and performance
