In 2022, TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) hosted a two-day event to expand participants’ understanding of the challenges posed by systemic racism in the aviation industry, why it matters, actions we can collectively take to create solutions, and future research ideas for ACRP on this subject. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM Eastern that served as a follow-on to this event, providing participants with the opportunity to hear key takeaways and insights from some of the speakers.

This webinar was based on ACRP Insight Event: Systemic Inequalities in the Airport Industry: Exploring the Racial Divide held April 12-13, 2022.

Parking affects passengers’ and visitors’ ability to access an airport and represents a large portion of an airport’s non-aeronautical revenue. TRB hosted a webinar on Monday, July 24, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Eastern that presented key information that airport management will need to consider to implement a rate-making strategy for parking. Presenters explored different strategies for airport parking pricing, discussed which strategies might be suitable for different types of airports, and provided tools for airports to assess their own parking pricing schemes.

When emergencies happen, airport management rely on plans for an efficient and effective response to a variety of scenarios. TRB hosted a webinar on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM Eastern that covered the issues and challenges experienced by airport staff when employing emergency plans to define roles, identify threats, and establish communication protocols. Presenters described specific emergency plan practices that can be applied to airports of all sizes. TRB hosted a webinar on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern that introduced the emerging electric and hybrid electric aircraft industry. Presenters estimated potential market growth, provided guidance to help airports estimate the potential impact on their facilities, and suggested ways to prepare for this industry shift.
