How Sustainability Enhances Community Benefits and Resilience July 2 Part of a series from the National Academy of Medicine’s Climate Collaborative, this webinar will look at how aligning environmental sustainability priorities with hospital charters, stewardship, and missions can foster employee engagement, retention, and community trust. It will also highlight why hospitals need to have climate resiliency plans for their own operations and the communities they serve, among other related topics.
Reimagining STEMM Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Career Development July 22 and 23 This summit will highlight changes in learning environments, skills acquisition, and the roles of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars while exploring effective practices and approaches to mentorship, providing awareness of career pathways, and right sizing the quantity of postdoctoral scholars to ensure a robust U.S. research talent base.
Strategies and Levers for Health-Centered Climate Action July 25 This workshop is part of an information-gathering series to inform the Commission for the Roadmap for Transformative Action to Achieve Health for All at Net-Zero Emissions. It will explore how to activate the levers of systems transformation to drive health-centered climate action.
The Role of Physical Activity in Obesity Treatment July 29 and 30 This workshop will examine the role of physical activity in treating obesity and managing body weight — including how physical activity can complement pharmaceutical treatments and bariatric surgery.
Reports Scheduled for Release in July Release dates for reports and proceedings from the National Academies depend on successful completion of the review process and publishing schedules. Aligning Investment in Therapeutic Innovation with Disease Burden Misalignment between U.S. disease burden and novel therapy innovation may contribute to an increase in U.S. disease prevalence, morbidity, and premature mortality. This report will recommend strategies to align both public and private investments in new therapies with unmet needs in the U.S.
Review of FAA Research on Passenger Seats and Aircraft Cabin Evacuation Efficiency Reviews the Federal Aviation Administration’s report “Effects of Airplane Cabin Interiors on Egress I: Assessment of Anthropometrics, Seat Pitch, and Seat Width on Egress” to help determine the effects of passenger seat pitch and width on emergency evacuations of commercial airplanes.
