TRB Webinar: Resistivity and Concrete Durability

October 11, 2022

12:30 PM - 2:00 PM (EDT)

Past

One of the many factors that contribute to concrete durability is the material’s resistivity. Higher resistivity indicate a material is a poor conductor of electric currents. How does this affect the longevity of our roads and other concrete infrastructures? TRB hosted a webinar on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM Eastern that discussed concrete resistivity and its impact on durability. Presenters shared a state agency perspective, new research, and potential impacts for practitioners.

This webinar was sponsored by the TRB Standing Technical Committee on Durability of Concrete.

The slides are linked in the meeting materials. View the recorded webinar below.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  • Concrete resistivity and its impact on durability – Robert Spragg, Federal Highway Administration
  • Resistivity implementation in North Carolina – Tara Cavalline, University of North Carolina Charlotte
  • New developments in resistivity testing and use for practitioners – Nima Kargah-Ostadi, Callentis
  • Question and answer session moderated by Michael Praul, Federal Highway Administration

The first 60 minutes of the webinar were for presentations and the final 30 minutes were reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants can:

  • Identify concrete resistivity and understand its impact on durability
  • Apply new research developments in concrete resistivity to practice

Professional Development Hours

Professional Development Hours (PDHs) earned on completion of this program were reported to the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP). Certificates of Completion are issued to all participants via the RCEP.net online system. Complaints about registered providers may be addressed to RCEP, 1015 15th Street, NW, 8th Fl., Washington, DC, 20005.
