Conference on Scenario Planning in Transportation

September 19 - 21, 2022

Past

Convened by Transportation Research Board, the Conference on Scenario Planning in Transportation on September 19-21, 2022 in Washington, D.C. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic exposed the need to accelerate the use of scenario planning. It has profoundly altered all sectors of the transportation industry by impacting how goods move to how transportation agencies support their customers' mobility needs. The pandemic and other disruptions such as those associated with increasing climate change events highlight the immediate need for transportation agencies to be better prepared. Many transportation agencies across modes started to use scenario planning to react to challenges created by COVID-19. This conference will advance the state of the practice of scenario planning so that these efforts are continuous and lead to policies and procedures that can be implemented to better prepare transportation agencies in the event of future disruptions. It will build upon previous scenario planning research and applications—particularly TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Foresight 750 Series.
